New partnership sees autonomous Las Vegas fleet managed by Hertz

Hertz will provide management and operational services for Aptiv’s fleet in Las Vegas, helping the development of autonomous vehicles.

The Hertz Corporation and its fleet management subsidiary, Donlen, have announced a new strategic partnership with Aptiv to assist with the operation and management of a fleet of autonomous vehicles om Las Vegas.

Currently, Aptiv’s technology powers safe and reliable autonomous vehicles in cities worldwide, with Las Vegas serving as the initial North American commercial deployment market.

The two companies will execute a phased approach to develop standard operating procedures for mobility-related autonomous fleets. The initial programme, scheduled to launch in autumn 2018, will further enhance and guide the implementation of similar programmes in future markets.

“Our partnership with Hertz will allow us to operate and maintain autonomous fleets at scale – a critical element of the offering that our on-demand mobility customers will require,” said Glen De Vos, Aptiv’s Chief Technology Officer and President, Mobility and Services Group. “This relationship is an important step in the broader journey for Aptiv within the self-driving technology space.”

Michael Fisher, Senior Vice President and Chief Digitisation Officer of Hertz, added: “We’re pleased to announce this partnership with Aptiv as it allows us to build on our expanding platform for managing autonomous vehicles of the future.”

The Hertz Corporation says it is committed to emerging mobility and actively supporting fleet management partnerships. Earlier in 2018, Aptiv partnered with Lyft on a successful pilot of driverless ride-hailing in Las Vegas as part of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Since, 30 driverless vehicles have been implemented into Lyft’s Vegas fleet thanks to the success of the pilot.
